Gregory Nazianzen Oration 10:4

Gregory Nazianzus Select Orations

4. This is why you bring me back into the world and, despite my reluctance, take my hand and seat me next to you. This, you will say, is the grievance for which you make me share your burdens as well as your laurels. This is why you anoint me high priest, dress me in the robe, and place the mitre upon my head; why you escort me to the altar of the spiritual offering, offer the calf of ordination, and consecrate my hands in the Spirit; why you lead me to the Holy os Holies for my initiation and make me minister of the true tent, which is set up not my man but by the Lord. But whether I am worthy, both of you who anoint me and of him for whose sake and in whose name I am anointed, this the Father of the real and truly Anointed One knows, whom he has anointed with the oil of gladness above his fellows, anointing humanity with divinity so as to make both one; and our Lord and God himself, Jesus Christ, through whom we have received not our reconciliation and the Holy Spirit which has charged us with this ministry in which we now take our place, jubilant in the hope of sharing the glory of our Lord Jesus Christ, to whom be the glory forever and ever. Amen.
